How can standards help move component repair from a technical possibility to a trusted industrial remanufacturing route?

R3-MYDAS standardisation recommendations

R3-MYDAS was represented at the ISO - International Organization for Standardization/TC 261 meeting in hashtag#Singapore by project partner European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF). During the meeting, Eurico Assunçao Assunção presented standardisation recommendations emerging from the project.

These recommendations build on the work carried out across the project’s three demonstration areas - Oil & Gas components, electric vehicle batteries and wind turbine gearboxes - connecting practical remanufacturing challenges with the standardisation needs identified throughout the project.

The standardisation recommendations shared during the meeting focused on four priorities:
• Qualification and acceptance criteria for laser cladding repair;
• Design guidance and fatigue assessment for repaired components;
• Digital traceability and Digital Product Passports for remanufactured parts;
• Characterisation and qualification of recycled materials used in remanufacturing.

Bringing these findings into international standardisation discussions is an important step for R3-MYDAS, helping translate the project’s work into common technical foundations that can support the wider industrial adoption of reliable and traceable remanufacturing.
